At World Minded we use sustainable materials, such as organic cotton and recycled fabrics for the production of all our clothing and accessories. Organic cotton is produced without the use of pesticides that are harmful to the environment. Sustainable fabrics are created from materials easily reproduced naturally using less resources. We make every effort to utilize local business for production; supporting the local economy, reducing energy consumption for shipping and ensuring fair wages for labor. Organic cotton is grown using methods and materials that have a low impact on the environment. Organic production systems replenish and maintain soil fertility, reduce the use of toxic and persistent pesticides and fertilizers, and build biologically diverse agriculture. Third-party certification organizations verify that organic producers use only methods and materials allowed in organic production. Organic cotton is grown without the use of toxic and persistent pesticides and synthetic fertilizers. In addition, federal regulations prohibit the use of genetically engineered seed for organic farming. All cotton sold as organic in the United States must meet strict federal regulations covering how the cotton is grown.

The current conventional cotton production system is heavily dependent upon pesticides and fertilizers (the #1 user of pesticides in the world). Current data from USDA indicates that almost 6 pounds of pesticides are applied per acre. Conventional cotton growers typically use Genetically Modified cotton seeds which have their own health safety and ecological concerns.

It is not only the amount of pesticides that are applied, but also the types of impacts they have on the health and well-being of the people in the rural communities.
